Joerg Drescher from Germany (living in Ukraine): In the beginning of the 1990s I read the acronym «SMI²LE» in Robert A. Wilson essay. In 1994 I came across a TV report about the «Megacities Project.» Since then, I started collecting ideas and kept thinking about ways to improve the world. I have been writing articles for many years and in 2006 I published the book «Iovialis – Confession of a terrorist» in Germany. It describes social problems, which can be causes of terrorism. Seeing how the current day financial crisis is affecting peoples’ lives all over the world, I got to the idea to issue «SMI²LE-View to the Future» in different languages. I asked Yulia Samus and Olesya Storozhuk, if they would like to write and translate articles. |

Yulia Samus from Ukraine: In 2007, I was employed as a journalist for the English language weekly magazine «What’s On.» I took an intensive course learning the fundamentals of editing methods and creative journalism. Realizing that the majority of information of entertainment magazines was based on public relations, I wasn't anymore interested in writing for similar publications. After that I started to travel and was able to get familiarized with the politics, economics, people, and history of other European countries. When I heard of the idea about the idea to make a journal for free, I immediately joined to help in realizing the journal. |

Olesya Storozhuk from Ukraine: Since 2006 I’ve participated in several youth projects in Ukraine which have given me experience in team work, on executive positions as well as on my own initiative. I have been editor and now hold the informational project UNISTUDY. During the same time I participated in different national and international programs – training courses, seminars, workshops in Ukraine and abroad about civic work, youth participation and media-sphere. Work on the journal «SMI²LE» is challenging for me, and I’m eager to implement my different experiences in a project, which gives positive emotions, is targeted on the whole world and aimed to push global changes. |
